| 2012 was a good year for me. But then again, pretty much all the years have been good years. Even the ones that seemed sucky at the time. Perspective will do that. I got to see Nashville and Key West, all on the same trip! I understand that the weather was terrible in Key West at the time, and yet it was so much better than what I was escaping. We got the Brewers Festival back on track, and were able to give a lot of money away to charities as a result. And we provided an excellent time for local beer enthusiasts, a benefit that shouldn’t be lightly dismissed.
This is the reason this medicament is exceptional to all men on account of its additional time activity and low viagra generika cost. We’ll see. I hope not.
We completed a major renovation of our kitchen, and got four of our ceilings replastered to hide that popcorn junk. And we bought a brand-spanking new Ford Focus. I’m just sorry Marcia liked her old car better.
Things I didn’t do:
I didn’t go see my sister in Montana.
Get better at disc golf. Either I got a lot worse, or everyone around me got better.
Play softball with the city hall team.
Participate in any more Umbrella concerts with Ryan Scott and his crew, although I made it to a few Artistree events.
Things I did do:
I kept track of how much alcohol I was drinking for a little over a month. Calculating “drink units” can get difficult when you’re sharing beers, or drinking from a pitcher and get occasional top-offs. But I averaged just under 2 2/3 drinks a day over that period, which included the 2011-2012 holiday season.
Kept running through last winter, and all year until late November, 2012, when a nagging injury laid me low.
Took a web class and learned css and dabbled in Flash script and java script.
Installed a radon remediation system and a kitchen in my house.
Joined the Energy Commission, and at the end of the year, the Conservation Commission.

| The new Fitchburg City Hall is at Putnam Place, aka the old GE factory. Nicely done in a hurry, and certainly no larger than they actually needed for who’s there, but they could use additional fit-up space to consolidate other offices. Not sure if Lenny Llakso and the other DPW folks, and Michael O’Hara, the planner, ought to be over on Broad Street essentially unavailable to the public. And certainly the former Community Development Office (whatever that means) shouldn’t be stuck in the basement of the library. At least the librarians get occasional company that way.

I don’t know how the women in either office deal with being able to hear everyone and everything.
Should they build out space for City Council? Right now they meet at Memorial.
But hey, what’s done is done. Now I really feel out of the loop. It’s been almost 3 years since my dismissal. Amazing how some things haven’t changed, and yet other things clearly have. A lot of new employees.
And I get the sense that they don’t care AT ALL about the old city hall. Apparently there’s no conception about how that building is important to a lot of people that are already a little bereft due to recent changes in Fitchburg. Hey, I’m over it, but I’m telling you that some people are going to be very upset when 718 Main Street is demolished.

The Johnsonia Fire, The Longsjo cancellation (both of them!), Stratton Playhouse fire (and accidental demolition of their props and costumes after!), all were catastrophes that came out of the blue, so to speak, and had a devastating affect of our psyche. We are morose and adrift. Is it all because of what we did to Joseph Palmer? |

| I went to a friend’s daughter’s (Larry’s Shelby) oral thesis presentation on literature and its role in saving the world. It essentially opined that well-written and engaging literature with an environmental theme can mobilize people to enact important environmental legislation and thereby save the world. A lot of discussion ensued afterwards, with one young man saying that he picked up a candy wrapper and threw it away on the way to the presentation, offering that as a small example as a world saving action.

| Well, the Johnsonia’s coming down. Brick by brick. Apparently, the demolition contractor wanted $100,000 to bail on his contract, which put a crimp in too little and too late efforts to renovate the property. Gene Capocia from the Leominster Housing Authority could have put a deal together. Too bad no one tried earlier.

The same freaking grant that was ALWAYS available to pay for it! It still has to go out to bid. You have 30 days to award after the bid by law. I don’t get it.
And Stratton Playhouse is doomed as well. Sad times for the ‘burg.
But on the plus side, the Longsjo is back as a four stage race! Three of the stages will be in other communities, but the downtown Criterium is still in Fitchburg on Sunday, July 1, 2012!!

Advantage of a Brewers Festival for the small brewer

Issues we face
- Insurance – It’s at a city park, it’s co-sponsored by the city, so you’d think the city’s insurance would simply cover the event. Not so simple. The city’s insurance will cover general liability, but liquor liability is another matter. The city’s insurance provider wants an additional $1,700 or some such amount to cover the city and the volunteers in the event something happens. For a one-day event???
- Date – You’d think setting a date would be easy. Not so. Last year we were derailed by another local group picking the same date for a drinking event at Saima Park, raising the unacceptable specter of revelers going directly from our event to theirs, and subsequently killing someone. Conflicts are hard to anticipate.

Well, you might be thinking that there is no link between technology and sexual life. discount viagra pharmacy discover for more I talked to Larry Casassa of the Fitchburg Community Development office today, who knows more than anyone else in this city about housing programs and potential subsidies, and who has put together or been a part of the financing of several large housing projects with multiple funding partners. No one has talked to him or invited him to the table to discuss the Johnsonia’s future! Is there even a table? I called Marc Dohan of the Twin Cities CDC right after, and he said that no one has approached him about it. Michael Ciota’s primary focus has been on obtaining the insurance proceeds – not on a renovation scenario.
What is Mayor Lisa Wong doing about this? Why doesn’t she challenge someone in City Hall to put a financing package together and get some deeds in lieu from people, or fashion some public-private innovative partnerships that could involve condo owners? The city has HOME funds, the state has low-income tax credit funding, the building would qualify for New Market tax credit financing, and there could be state historic tax credits that could play a role. Hell, an earmark or other federal assistance could be possible in John Olver’s last year.
Maybe it’s not possible, but how do we know until someone tries? And don’t tell me they have, because if they didn’t involve Larry or Marc, they didn’t try very hard!

My Longsjo Petition

| I submitted a petition to City Council for them to request that the Mayor fund the Longsjo bicycle race if they keep two of the stage races in Fitchburg. I knew that the city already funded the Longsjo in many ways, and thought there’d be a discussion about that at the Finance Committee meeting. I should have known better. Here’s what I told them:
It is essential to consult with your doctor time to time and evaluate the tadalafil online mastercard treatment level of surgery. There has to be some form of sexual stimulation and sexual arousal. online viagra without prescription However, chronic alcoholism can cause liver and nerve damage, and alteration in sexual hormones viagra genérico 25mg http://www.midwayfire.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Midway-Employment-Application.pdf that can lead to ED. Type of Emergency Dental Conditions: Emergency tab viagra dental treatment can range treatment of bacterial or fungal or viral infection to a tooth fracture or dental restoration. My name is David Streb of 377 Highland Avenue, Fitchburg. I submitted this petition to council because I heard that other communities were wooing the Longsjo Race away with promises of financial support, and that alarmed me. The Longsjo Race needs to stay in Fitchburg, and it needs to be a four stage race. That’s why my petition was conditioned upon two of the races being held in Fitchburg.
I know that you are all supporters of the Longsjo, and that you know what an economic boom it has been for area businesses and hotels. (I was wrong about this point, as I was to find out) Many of us invite our friends from outside the area on race days because it’s exciting to watch world-class athletes racing on our streets. I’ve personally spoken to area business people who say how important this race is to their businesses. Unfortunately, with the seemingly unrelenting financial issues that the city is facing, it seems beyond the pale to expect the Mayor to come up with $25,000 for a local non-profit, particularly when we can’t even seem to turn on streetlights or open the Library full-time. I get it. But I’ve been in this city a long time, and I know that there’s never a good time to spend money. There’s always a financial crisis of some sort. But sometimes you have to spend money to make money. This race makes the city money. Fitchburg City Government needs to make a commitment to the Longsjo – to show that we love the race and that we want to keep the race. Since I submitted this petition, I learned that the city already spends tens of thousands of dollars on supporting the Longsjo when they race in Fitchburg, through Police and DPW overtime. This petition was not intended to be an appropriation request. I know that only the Mayor can submit an appropriation. It is rather an opportunity for the council to clearly express its commitment to save this race and keep it primarily a Fitchburg event. The Committee has the authority to modify my petition to urge the Mayor do all she can to keep the Longsjo race in Fitchburg as a four day stage race using all available resources, to include continuing the assistance by the Police, the Department of Public Works, and other city staff that have historically assisted the race during its long history with Fitchburg. This is an opportunity for city council to send a clear and unequivocal message that Fitchburg supports the Longsjo, and will support the Mayor in her efforts to support the race. Let’s come out of this with a positive expression of support. Thank you. The committee amended the petition to be, essentially, a symbolic petition, requesting that they use funds already appropriated. But the full council then bashed it as if it was never changed, and ultimately gave it leave to withdraw. Not their finest moment, IMHO.
